Immigration Time Out

A United States Representative from Missouri, Sam Graves (Rep) is now calling for a moratorium on immigration I mentioned that a few days ago. I'm going to try to post an article from the St. Joseph News-Press. I don't know if this will work since you have to pay to subscribe to the News-Press. http://www.stjoenews-press.com/main.asp?SectionID=81&SubSectionID=272&ArticleID=64254&TM=31747.62 That will fill you in on the congressmans plan.

Pro-Life Victory

I just read an Associated Press article (House OKs Bill Toughening Abortion Consent, By Laurie Kellman, 4/28/05) that says that after an easy House victory the latest efforts to stop abortion will move to the Senate where Republican gains make the passing of legislation that would prevent minors from crossing state lines to get abortions without parental consent more likely. According to spokeswoman Amy Call Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn) plans on bringing such a bill to a vote this summer, it is to be on his top ten priority list.

I'm always happy to get news like this. I feel I have a good reason for being pro-life. I was born in 1950 and put up for adoption at birth. If you read my adoption papers they show my birth Mothers name (that's all I know about her) and say father unknown. From that I assume my birth Mother was not married. Think of how an un-wed pregnant woman would have been viewed by the public in 1950. I'm sure she could have gotten an illegal back alley abortion, but she choose to carry me full term and give birth. She may have made mistakes in her life, but as far as I know she was not a murderer. As far as I'm concerned abortion is just another word for murder, don't forget Congress made it a separate crime to harm a fetus during an assault on a pregnant woman. To me that is saying the fetus is a life, take a life and your charged with murder. I have far more respect for my unknown birth Mother than I do for all the abortion providers and the legislators and judges that support them put together.

I'm praying that this legislation will easily pass in the Senate.

Message From Down Size D.C.org Part Two

On Wednesday March 30, 2005 (See original message in my archives, ) I posted a message about an e-mail I received from Down Size DC.org (www.downsizedc.org). They are trying to get legislation passed that would force our elected officials to read each piece of legislation before voting on it. This is something they are not doing now. They vote along party lines (do as they are told by party leaders) or they get advice on how to vote from their staffers. In the original message there is a link to the first draft of the bill they have been working on. Today I got an e-mail saying the second draft as been posted at their web site, www.downsizedc.org after you get to their site click on, "Make Congress read the laws it passes!" Then click on, Draft Legislation (http://www.downsizedc.org/rtba_legislation.shtml .

I don't know about you but if I was going to sign a legal document (like a contract) I would read every word before I'd even think of signing my name to it. The people we elect to represent us in D.C. don't seem to think like that, they will vote for anything the party tells them to. If this legislation is passed that practice could come to an end. Please visit Down Size DC.org to see how you can help get this piece of important legislation before congress and passed.

Claiming Parts of The United States

Do you or others you know feel that there isn't an immigration problem in the United States? Do you think Mexico wouldn't like to take over or lay claims to parts of the United States? Think again. One of the first things I found in today's E-mail was a message from World Net Daily (www.worldnetdaily.com) telling about an e-mail they received from a California (USA) resident. The e-mail they received contained a photo of a very interesting (disturbing) billboard in California. You can see it at, http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=43973 .

Where I work we always have a calendar on the wall in the area where we do our paper work. This years calendar was printed in 5 languages. Why would something like that be needed? If you or I were going to move to a foreign country wouldn't we be expected to learn to language?

The more I read about the immigration problem we are now faced with the more I'm convinced we need to put a moratorium on all immigration until we can round up and deport all illegal aliens. The moratorium should remain in place until we can come up with a workable immigration policy that will provide us with border security that will prevent the illegals from returning.

Who Populates Our Prisons?

I just read an Associated Press article, U.S. Prison Population Soars in 2003, '04, By Siobhan McDohough. The article says that each week between mid-2003 and mid-2004 another 900 inmates were added to the population of jails and prisons in the United States. Last June there were 2.1 million inmates in the system. Paige Harrison, the co-author of a Bureau of Justice Statistics report attributes the increase to the get tough on crime policies of the 1980's and 90's.

Any time I read an article on prison or jail populations in the United States I find myself wondering who these people are. If I read the court records in my local paper I find that most of the people that are sentenced to jail or prison have been charged with non support or drug sales. Are they career criminals, or were they once hard working honest citizens that lost their job when the factory they worked at moved out of the country? At one time this country manufactured and exported products to meet the worlds needs. Now our number one export is American jobs and our fastest growing industry is the prison industry. If our law makers truly wanted to do something to reduce crime they would stop supporting free trade agreements.

Jury Duty

I was just reading an article about jury duty in my local paper. It got me thinking about a book I feel should be a must read for every United States citizen, The Citizens Rule Book. The book explains jury duty and why we have jury trials. It goes into your rights as a juror. "The jury has a right to judge both the law as well as the fact in a controversy", John Jay 1st Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, 1789. That's sure not what we were told during jury instructions the last time I was called to serve. We were told we were only to judge the facts in the case. The book also contains the Ten Commandments, and a summary of the Communist Manifesto, looks to me like most of the ten planks of Communism are in place in this country now. Some of our Founding Documents are also in this book, that means it's a great tool to carry to meetings with your elected officials.

You can read the Citizens Rule Book on-line at, http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/7006/rulebook.html#anchor9 . You can also find out how to get printed copies at that link. The printed copies are small enough to fit into your shirt pocket and they are inexpensive which makes them great for hand outs to Scouts and Church Youth groups.

Greatest American

I just ran across AOL's list of 100 nominees for greatest American. I don't know if this is something we're supposed to vote on in the future or what. I didn't bother with checking that out yet, I just looked over the list to see if I could find anything I thought was odd about the list. I figured I would and I was right. When you get down to the M's on the list AOL has listed, Madonna, Malcom X, Dr. Phil McGraw, Marilyn Monroe, Michael Moore, and Audie Murphy. Notice that James Madison, The Father of The United States Constitution didn't make the list. OK the people listed in the M's are all well known, and some of them have done some good things, (matter of opinion) but are any of them great Americans?

I thought some of you might be interested in seeing AOL's list of Great Americans in alphabetical order.

Blogging For God

I was just checking my e-mail (I'm behind I've not been feeling well) and I found something that some of you might be interested in. A list of religious blog sites, http://www.beliefnet.com/blogheaven/#christian

Now that I have mentioned the fact that I'm not feeling well and a list of religious blog sites in the same posting I have a question for you. How many of you feel that a person can get relief from a medical problem or condition through the power of prayer? I have seen it work, but I would like to hear what you think about it.

Missouri HB 197

If Missouri HB 197 is passed any contractor that hires illegal aliens to work on publicly financed projects will be fined plus they will not be able to bid on publicly financed projects for ten years. I feel this is a step in the right direction. The way to stop the practice of hiring illegal aliens is to stop the practice from being so profitable.

Define Politics (Quote of The Day)

I have heard several definitions for the word "Politics". Today the best one I have ever seen was e-mailed to me by the Federalist Patriot, www.federalist.com . "Politics is the art of preventing people from taking part in affairs which properly concern them." Paul Valery.

If you have a better definition please leave a comment.

On Line Freedom Of Speech Act

There is still work to be done to protect your blog site from the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (BCRA). I have mentioned the BCRA and suggested you take action against it in some previous postings, Good News From The Hill, 3/25/05, Protect Your Blog Site, 3/22/05, and Bloggers Could Be Gagged or Fined, 3/10/05. Now I would like to urge you to contact your elected officials in D.C. because legislation is pending in Congress to exempt the Internet from campaign finance regulations. The mainstream media is already exempt, but you are not. NYTimes.com is exempt, but non-media blogs, websites, and emails are not. Please click on the link below to ask Congress to pass this legislation to restore your personal "freedom of the press" on the Internet, and to put you back on the same legal ground as the major media. Please go to, http://action.downsizedc.org/wyc.php?cid=22 and add your own personal comments to the pre-written message.

U.S. Border Control

I just finished reading an article by Frosty Woolridge, THE NEXT AMERICAN REVOLUTION, http://www.newswithviews.com/Woolridge/frosty50.htm. Frosty mentioned a web site in the article that I had never been to before, www.usbc.org . I did take a few minutes to check it out after I read the article. If you are concerned about our lack of border security you might want to check it out for yourself.

Border Security

I got off work at 11:PM Saturday. I just wanted to unwind a little after taking my shower and then go on to bed. I found an e-mail alert from World Net Daily (www.worldnetdaily.com) that told about, "A new ad campaign promoting spicy hamburgers features a tough talking unborn baby threatening to rip out part of his mother's womb if she doesn't stop eating jalapeno peppers." I thought I could use a laugh before bed so I checked it out. It wasn't as funny as I thought it would be, but if you are interested you can find it at, http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=43793 .

While I was looking for that article something else at World Net Daily's web site got my attention, so much for unwinding before bed. At the top of the page with a flashing breaking news icon there was an article that told about a 19 month old Houston, Texas toddler that was shot to death. The suspected shooter is a 19 year old illegal alien that is believed to be a member of the EL Salvadoran gang MS-13. Check out the article at, http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=43841

Just below that there is an article about a Bible college that could be fined for housing members of the Minuteman Project while they are in Arizona protecting our southern border, something our federal government cannot or will not do. Members of the Minuteman Project have been called just about every name in the book by supporters of wide opened borders. Now it sounds like you could find yourself in legal trouble if you support the Minuteman Project, check out, http://www.tucsoncitizen.com/index.php?page=local&story_id=041605a9_minuteman

It sounds like a lot of United States citizens are stepping up to offer support to Patrick Haab the Army reservist that was arrested for holding 7 illegal aliens at gun point at an Arizona rest stop, http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/local/articles0416haab16.html I have a couple of questions about this case. Isn't an undocumented immigrant someone that enters the country illegally? If I'm correct why does the news media insist on giving them glamorous sounding names? Call them what they are, illegal aliens. What ever happened to the right of a United States citizen to make a citizens arrest?

What happens after an illegal alien is detained by the United States Border Patrol? http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=43838

If you owned a piece of property that was damaged when a police chase involving illegal aliens ended with a crash who would have to pay to have your property repaired? If you said the illegals or the city guess again, http://sun.yumasun.com/artman/publish/articles/story_16073.php

I think I saved the best for last. If this is the kind of people we have working at Immigration and Customs Enforcement we're going to have to see if we can get the Minuteman Project to extend their stay, http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/0415az-agentwife15-ON.html

I don't know about you, but I have friends that don't think we have that big of a problem with border control. I'm going to e-mail this to them. If you do know people who feel there is no need for citizen patrols like the Minuteman Project please share these articles with them.

National Debt, April 16, 2005

Every Saturday I record the national debt at a different location. To night I decided to post it here too. The site I get the information from, http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock shows the current national debt which at this time is, $7,802,908,542,525.74. It also give you the current estimated population of the United States, which is 295,892,520 . They use that to figure what each United States citizens share of the debt would be. So at this time your share of the national debt is, $26,370.75. I posted this information on April the second too. So, if you would like to see how much the debt has gone up since then go to April 2, 2005 "National Debt" in my archives.

Just A Thought

As I start to write this you have just under a half an hour to get your tax's filed if you haven't got it done yet. I started wondering about how a change in dates would effect the way United States citizens vote. What if the presidential election was held on April 16th. What you paid out in tax for the year would still be fresh in your mind when you went in to cast your vote. Oh well it was just a thought.

Tax Day Eve

I remember reading an article a few years ago that told the number one answer to the question, " What are the most frightening spoken words you could possibly hear?" I'm sure a lot of you know the answer, "I'm with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and I'm here to help you." If I was making a list of things I'd like to see done away with the Income Tax and the IRS would be somewhere on the top of the list.

Tonight (Tax Day Eve., 4/14/05) I received an action alert asking me to sign a petition urging our elected officials to replace the income tax and IRS with a consumption tax. An idea that I have supported for quite some time. You would be taxed on what you spend, not what you earn. If there is such a thing as a fair tax I feel this would be it. If you would like to read the alert about the consumption tax go to, http://www.grassfire.org/99/Alert-050413.htm . After reading that if you are interested in signing the petition you can do that at, http://www.grassfire.org/59/petition.asp?PID=8268645&NID=1

Just For Fun, Take This Quiz

I just stopped by the Constitution Party's web site (www.constitutionparty.com) to see if there were any new updates since my last visit. I found something that I had never noticed before. A Constitution, Issues and History Quiz. First I thought it might be fun for me to take a test on the Constitution since it was something I hadn't done since I was in school. After I took it I had another thought. Some of you might have school age children (ours are all grown) this will give you a chance to see if the schools are teaching your kids anything about the Constitution. If your interested in doing this go to, http://www.constitutionparty.com/quiz/quiz.pl . Some of you might want to take it too.

Minnesota Court of Appeals Ruling

I just read an April 12, 2005 U.S. Newswire Release that told about the Minnesota Court of Appeals decision to uphold a lower court decision that killed the states 2003 concealed weapons law. It was ruled that the law had been unlawfully passed. Mary Heller, president of the Minnesota Million Moms said that it never would have passed in the first place without the sneaky maneuvering of the NRA. The concealed carry law passed after it was attached to a natural resources bill that dealt with ice houses and snowmobiles. Under Minnesota law unrelated matters cannot be attached to a bill.

I guess the oral argument on the case got a little heated when the pro-Second Amendment lobbyist used the term liberal or activist judges. That could have been interesting if you'd have been there to see it. That is not the reason I decided to mention this article. I'm really sorry to hear that the honest citizens of Minnesota will no longer be able to defend themselves, but there is another reason for this posting. At the very end of the article it says, "As the nation's largest, non-partisan, grassroots organization leading the fight to prevent gun violence, the Brady Campaign, working with its dedicated network of Million Mom March Chapters, is devoted to creating an America free from gun violence, where all Americans are safe at home, at school, at work, and in our communities". That is not what I see the Brady Campaign or the Million Mom Chapters doing. As far as I'm concerned these two organizations are doing every thing they can do to disarm all honest United States citizens. I feel their main goal is to create a safer working environment for thugs, thieves, rapists and murderers. They have managed to get that done in Minnesota.

Firearms Safety Courses Offered At Public Schools?

I was surprised to see this article, Napolitano signs bill to allow course, from KOLD News 13. It says Arizona Governor Napolitano has signed a bill that will make it possible for Arizona public schools to offer an elective one semester firearms safety course. The bill was passed by the Arizona Senate two months ago and the House approved the bill on April 4th. Arizona state law already allowed the state Game and Fish Department to provide training in safe handling of firearms and bows if a school requested the training. Now school districts and charter schools will be able to offer the marksmanship course too. Students will practice at an established range and be instructed on the use of clay targets and demonstrate competence with a .22 caliber rifle.

I'm glad to see the children of Arizona will get a chance to take firearms safety and marksmanship courses, no doubt they will be taught by a certified instructor and safety will come before marksmanship. I'm hoping for a couple of things since reading the article. I hope that the students that choose not to take the class will learn that everyone that has an interest in firearms is not a mass murderer by seeing that the course doesn't have a negative effect on their friends that do take it. I think a lot of kids today think all firearms are bad and everyone that owns one is evil. This comes from being in a class room with a teacher that is opposed to firearms ownership that brings their personal opinion into the class room. I'm hoping a lot of Arizona students show an interest in taking the course, that could help it to spread to other states.

Attention Cell Phone Users, This Message Concerns Your Bill

A reminder to cell phone users was just sent to me. I felt it was important enough to share with everyone. In a few weeks cell phone numbers will be released to telemarketing companies. Cell phone users will start to receive calls from these companies and be charged for the call. To prevent this from happening to you use your cell phone to call the National Do Not Call List at, 888/382-1222. This call will only take a few minutes of your time and it will prevent you from getting these costly unwanted calls for five years. You can also block these calls by going to, http://www.donotcall.gov/Register/Reg.aspx . Be sure to share this information with your friends and family members.

A Patriots Duty

I have a question for you. Do you think it is unpatriotic to disagree with the president's (or federal governments) decisions and policies? I guess I had a couple of questions. Do you think our Founding Fathers felt that United States citizens should support the president and federal governments decisions and policies 100% of the time, no questions ask? The Constitution Party's (www.constitutionparty.com) 2004 Vice Presidential candidate, Chuck Baldwin wrote an article that got me to start thinking about those two questions. You can read the article at, http://www.chuckbaldwinlive.com/cwarchive_041205.html you will find quotes telling how a couple of our Founding Fathers felt about the federal government there.

I feel the duty of a patriot is to question everything the federal government does. I don't mean oppose everything. I'm saying contact your elected officials and ask them for their opinion of bills that are before congress. Let them know how you feel about the legislation they are working on, it's going to effect you and future generations. I feel this is what our Founding Fathers intended for us to do. I don't think they wanted United States citizens to become the herd of sheep that many of them make up today.

If your interested in reading more Chuck Baldwin articles go to www.chuckbaldwinlive.com

Bush Hopes Farmers Will Support CAFTA

I just read an Associated Press article (Bush Needs Farm Support for Trade Accord, By Libby Quaid) dated April 11, 2005 that says the Bush administration is hoping farmers across the United States will help them convince congress to pass the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) in May. The first three paragraphs of the article makes it sound like they could have a pretty rough time selling CAFTA to the farmers if they all think like Mr. Alan Welp does. Welp, a sugar beet farmer is afraid that if CAFTA is passed it will wreck his industry. He says that every pound of sugar that is imported into the United States is a pound that our farmers will just store, or not grow at all. "We are already an oversupplied market," said Welp, who grows sugar, corn and wheat on 3,500 acres in northeast Colorado. "there's going to be huge job loss, and it will put a lot of farmers and processors out of business. So the negatives, in my opinion, far outweigh any of the positives." Sounds to me like Mr. Welp has read about the effects free trade agreements like NAFTA and GATT had on other industries. I hope more farmers feel the same way, and they will contact their elected officials and urge them to say NO to CAFTA. Under all of these free trade agreements the United States number one export has become United States citizens jobs.

One of my In-Laws used to work at a grain mill before he became a guard at a state prison, he had always been opposed to free trade agreements. After becoming a prison guard he told me (jokingly) that he had changed his mind, he was in favor of free trade. He said free trade agreements meant job security to him. He says a lot of people that are in prison are really good family men. They lost their jobs to NAFTA and GATT, so they turned to crime to provide for their families. I have a feeling in some cases that could be true. So, lets use an old phrase when trying to get others to oppose more job give always. "Help take a bite out of crime" say NO! to CAFTA.

I'd like to urge all United States citizens to go to http://www.house.gov/writerep/ and contact their United States Representatives (they will vote on CAFTA first) and ask them to oppose CAFTA.

Stern: Jane Fonda a 'Hero' of Vietnam

I didn't say Fonda was a hero, I just wanted to let you know what a hero is to Howard Stern. I subscribe to the Insider Report from NewsMax.com (www.newsmax.com) I'd like to share something from the April 9, 2005 news letter with you. My comments will be in italics.

Stern: Jane Fonda a 'Hero' of Vietnam

He freely admits he may be one of the few people who thinks so, but Howard Stern says Jane Fonda is a "hero" for going to Vietnam in 1972. I've heard Jane get called lots of things because of her trip to Vietnam, this is the first time I've heard her called a hero, so I'd say Stern must be the only person that feels this way.

Fonda made her highly controversial trip at a time when U.S. servicemen were still fighting and dying at the hands of North Vietnamese regulars and Viet Cong guerrillas. One former POW, David Hoffman who was shot down over North Vietnam in 1971 says he was tortured by prison guards because he didn't want to talk with Fonda when she visited the prison.

Her trip was seen by millions as an act of blatant treason, though she was never charged with the crime and continued on her path to a successful career in Hollywood. There is no statute of Limitations for treason so she could still be charged. I heard she has offered an apology, but that is only because she is trying to sell her new book.

And though he gets "really pissed-off letters from vets and stuff" when he says such things, Stern says Fonda's trip should be praised because "anyone- especially anyone of prominence- who helped bring down that war, especially when I was a year or two away from going over myself, I gotta say: Thank You." For some strange reason I just don't think it's right to thank a person for doing something that caused another human to be tortured.

He did say Fonda's posing behind an enemy weapon was a bad thing, but he said it was clear the North Vietnamese soldiers in the picture with her were just reacting to being napalmed by French and U.S. troops. I wonder if Stern has ever thought of the fact that those veterans that are sending him the really pissed off letters might be reacting to what they went through while serving their country? They are the true hero's.

A Special Day

Today is a special day. It has been set aside by a Presidential Proclamation to honor a group of very courageous people. Many of them suffered some of the worst hardships imaginable while serving their country. Today is National Former Prisoner of War Day. A day to remember and respect all of our military service members that served time as captives in enemy hands .

If you would like to read the Presidential Proclamation making April 9,2005 National Former Prisoner of War Day go to my April Archives and scroll down to April 2,2005 , Proclamation.

Could You Be On The List?

Someone e-mailed me a Washington Times article, Bills would ban sales, By Audrey Hudson, the article says there are now bills in congress that would prevent suspected terrorist from buying firearms. Critics of this effort to fight terrorism are concerned about the accuracy of the watch list, they feel mistakes could prevent honest citizens from being able to purchase firearms. Rep. Steve King of Iowa said he will not support legislation that would deny citizens of their constitutional right through a secret list without adjudication. He went on to say, "Boarding a plane is a privilege, owning a gun is a right". The article says the the legislation in congress is in response to a Government Accountability Office audit found that 35 gun sales had been approved to people whose names matched names on terrorist watch list. Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D-New York) who is pushing a no fly no buy bill says she knows that having your name on the list does not make you a terrorist. She says, " Any law-abiding citizen wrongly included on the list will be able to follow the Transportation Security Administration's procedure for quick removal from the no- fly list." Her bill would add the no-fly list used by airlines to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System which is used by gun shop owners. The National Shooting and Sports Foundation (NSSF) found out that some of the names on the list are members of congress, Sen. Edward Kennedy, Rep. John Lewis, and Rep. Don Young to name a few. NSSF says it's senior vice president and general council were also on the list, proving it is not reliable. NSSF communications director Gary Mehalik said, "It's a secret government list and we don't know who gets on or why."

That last quote is what really got my attention. the article mentions three members of congress that found out their names had been added to the no-fly terrorist watch list. We all know that politicians can't possibly make all the people happy all the time. Do you suppose someone with access to the list could have been upset by one of their votes and their names were added to the list as an act of revenge? I don't know a lot about the NSSF, but I assume they support the Second Amendment, if they make statements opposing new gun control laws they could get the anti-gun crowd upset. If they were stopped for being a suspected terrorist at the airport it would be easy to discredit anything they said in the future. Just think, if I'm right about this I could find out later that I made the list for posting this blog.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not opposed to the government trying to stop another terrorist attack on our soil. It's the way they are going about it that I'm opposed to. We could start by securing our borders, if any other country in the world was leading the war on terrorism their borders would be locked down. If there are known terrorist in the country don't watch them, arrest them. It just seems to me that a lot of what is being done to fight the war on terrorism at home is creating more problems for the honest citizens than it is for the suspected terrorist.

CAFTA Vote In May

I just read an article that says the United States House of Representatives could be voting on the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) in May. If passed it will add six Central American and Caribbean countries (El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic) as Western Hemisphere free trade partners. In other words the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) will be expanded if this legislation is passed. we saw what NAFTA did for the United States, it closed factories and sent United States citizens jobs out of the country. Now multiply the effects of NAFTA by six and you will see what CAFTA will do to our country. House Ways and Means committee Chairman Bill Thomas (R-Calif.) says his committee will finish the hearings on the agreement this month and bring it to the House for a vote in May. He told the CAFTA countries, "It will get done". The agreement has the support of the Bush administration and a good deal of the United States (always in search of cheaper labor) business community. The agreement is being opposed by the United States textile and sugar industries due to fears of business loss, along with many democrat's who say the CAFTA countries have weak labor rights and environmental standards.

What political party you support shouldn't be an issue here, think about what shipping thousands of jobs out of the United States will do to the economy. We are told over and over that the Social Security System will be in even worse trouble soon because more people will be drawing out of the system than there are paying in. If passed this could speed the crashing of the Social Security System along. I'd like to ask you to take a little time and contact your United States Representative (remember to be nice) and urge him or her to help protect jobs in the United States and the economic future of our country by saying NO! to CAFTA.

If you don't know how to contact your Representative go to, http://www.house.gov/writerep/ .

Filibuster

Just got an e-mail alert from Gun Owners of America (www.gunowners.org) that said the drive to eliminate one of the best legislative tools Second Amendment supporters have is losing steam. That doesn't mean the filibuster is safe just yet. There are still some of our elected officials that would like to see it done away with. Don't forget it was the threat of a filibuster that prevented a semi-auto ban from being added on to the Department of Defense Authorization bill. The threat of a filibuster could also be used to stop any efforts to add gun control amendments onto the gun makers protection act at some time in the near future.

At this time Gun Owners of America is asking all Second Amendment supporters (gun owners) to contact their Senators and urge them to oppose the "nuclear option" and leave the Senate filibuster rules intact. Gun Owners of America has provided you with a way to send your Senators a pre written message by going to, http://www.gunowners.org/activism.htm . Please take the time to send your message today.

Missing

If you had a family member that was missing how long would you want to wait before you gave up and considered them dead?

I read an AOL news article this morning about the wife of the deputy warden of an Oklahoma prison that disappeared ten years along with a convict that escaped from the prison. She told authorities that he has held her captive the whole time. They were found after a tip sent to the TV show "America's Most Wanted" led law enforcement officers to a mobile home in Campti, Texas. The article leads me to believe that they have spent the entire ten years in Texas. The article doesn't say anything about the family giving her up for dead. I guess they had continued to believe that she would return home alive. I wonder how many times they were advised to give up over the past ten years.

I also got an e-mail about a missing man this morning. It says that every morning before going to work Carolyn Maupin says a prayer asking for someone to find and rescue her son Matt. Matt Maupin is the only American soldier classified as a captive in Iraq. Wednesday (tomorrow) almost exactly a year after Spc. Matt Maupin disappeared the Army is scheduled to convene a panel to decide if he should continue to be classified as a captive or if he should be considered dead."We don't want him to be forgotten," Matt's Mother said in a recent interview. "I am just afraid that if they move on, then what will we say when he shows up alive and we aren't there waiting for him?" Before you say that would be impossible let me point out the fact that from time to time we hear about South Korean soldiers that were taken prisoner during the Korean War escaping and returning home. Army officials say that Maupin has not been forgotten, and they are still looking for him, but they cannot provide any details about their efforts.

Spc. Maupin was captured last year on April 9. I find something very interesting about that date and the fact that our government might be giving up on finding him alive. On April 1, 2005 President Bush issued a proclamation making April 9, 2005 National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day. If you would like to read the proclamation go to my April 2, 2005 posting, "Proclamation". Every since our country was born we have left soldiers behind after every war we have ever been involved in. These soldiers were Husbands, Fathers, Mothers, Sisters and Brothers that had taken time out of their lives to serve their country. We must never forget any of them.

Where Do you Stand On Illegal Immigration?

How do you feel about illegal aliens crossing our southern border and taking jobs from United States citizens? Are you concerned about terrorist crossing the border and carrying of another attack on United States soil? The next one could be worse than 911.

Do you feel our elected officials should be doing more to protect our borders? The Grassfire.org Alliance is offering you a chance to send a message to our elected officials urging them to do everything in their power to Secure Our Borders and stop the flow of illegal aliens that are entering our country by signing a petition which I have already signed.

ATV accidents kill children

I just got home from work about an hour ago. On the nights that I get off at 11:PM I read the next day's local paper (Saint Joseph News-Press, www.stjoelive.com) before going to bed.

One of the first head lines I saw said, "ATV accident kills 7-year-old". My guess was that someone had been taking their son or daughter for a ride and had an accident. I see adults doing this quite often so this would not have surprised me. I was wrong, the article said that a 7 year old boy ( I won't mention names due to ages) died after being thrown from an ATV that was being driven by a 9 year old boy. The article said the ATV left the road and struck a ravine, the 7 year old was thrown from the vehicle before it fell back and trapped him. It goes on to say that another child, a 6 year old was also on the ATV at the time. The 6 and 9 year olds were both taken to a local hospital, their conditions were unavailable at the time of this writing.

I took the time to mention this for a couple of reasons. First I can not understand why a 6,7 or 9 year old would be on an ATV with another child as a passenger I have known experienced adult ATV drivers that were killed or injured in accidents. Where were the adult's at the time?

My second reason for mentioning this. Can you imagine the outrage if a 6,7 and 9 year old took a firearm out of the house and one of them accidentally shot and killed one of the others? The anti-gun crowd would have a field day, it would be in the national news for weeks, as far as I know this is just a local news story so far. There would be a cry for more gun control laws and efforts would be made to have the parents and or the owner of the ATV jailed for being irresponsible.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating a 7 day waiting period and a background check before purchasing an ATV. I'm just saying society seems to view these two objects differently. One of these objects can be just as deadly as the other if not used safely. If you enjoy shooting sports and want to get your children involved I think that is great. Before you ever hand them a loaded weapon (and they all are!) make sure that child knows every thing you can possibly teach them about firearms safety. The same goes for those of you that enjoy riding ATV's, if you have young ones that want to get involved in your hobby or sport teach them, but the first lessons should be on safe operation of the vehicle.

Holding Iraq Accountable

I just read a U.S. Newswire release about American POW's that had won a judgment against Iraq for the way they were treated while being held as POW's during the Gulf War. A court of appeals later erased their judgment. The former POW's and their families have now petitioned the Supreme Court to hear their case.

I thought this was pretty interesting since just a few days ago President Bush issued a proclamation making April 9, 2005 National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day. I guess the court of appeals didn't agree with President Bush when he told how he felt about all former POW's. I pray the Supreme Court Justices will rule in favor of the POW's. I agree with President Bush, we should honor and respect the men and women that were captured and held prisoner while serving their country. I feel that every day should be Former POW Recognition Day.

If you haven't read President Bush's National Former POW Recognition Day Proclamation you can scroll down to a message I posted on April 2, 2005, Proclamation.

Call Them What They Are

I just read an April, 4, 2005 Associated Press article, Migrant Smugglers Getting Creative, By Ananda Shorey. The article tells about some of the more creative ways smugglers have tried to get illegal aliens from Mexico into the United States. I thought the article was interesting, but there was something about the article that bothered me. The articles author kept calling the illegal aliens migrants. When I hear the word migrant I think of someone that has crossed the border legally to do seasonal work and return home after their visa has expired. They are not brought across the border by smugglers, illegal aliens are brought into the country by smugglers. Call them what they are.

The article goes on to say that most of the illegal aliens that are caught now are women and children. It says the men (husbands and fathers I assume) cross the border first looking for work. After their work is finished the men stay here because of the expense and danger involved with crossing the border. The women and children then come here because they want their families to be together. The article says,"You have to feel compassion for people who are driven to these measures." The author leaves out the part about who pays for the food and medical expenses of these illegal alien families since the work has finished. That would be you and I, the American taxpayers. I wonder how much compassion would be felt for us if we got caught sneaking across the border into Mexico?

Chinese Imports Are Up

I just now got around to reading an April first Associated Press article (Government Reports China's Imports Up, BY Martin Crutsinger) that says imports of textiles and apparel were up in the first three months of this year. The article says that 78.3 million cotton knit shirts were imported from China in the first three months of the year. That was an increase of over 1,200 percent from the same period last year. There were 74.1 million cotton trousers imported from China in the first quarter of this year. That is an increase of over 1,500 percent from a year ago. Textile industry officials say a new government report shows that Chinese imports are disrupting the U.S. market. They are trying to get the government to reinstitute quotas which had been in place for more than three decades, they were lifted at the beginning of this year. Auggie Tantillo, executive director of the American Manufacturing Trade Action Coalition said that 17,200 U.S. textile and apparel manufacturing jobs had already been lost this year. He says more jobs will be lost unless the government takes action immediately. The government report shows that since imports from China started to surge other countries that had been shipping to the United States started seeing a decrease in their sales. Shipments of cotton trousers from Mexico fell by 5.24 percent in the first quarter of 2005.

What bothers me most about this problem is the fact that most of the factories that are manufacturing the clothing in China are owned by companies from the United States. A lot of them closed shop in the United States and moved to Mexico when NAFTA took effect. When the Mexicans started expecting a livable wage they started looking for a new home, which they found in China. At some point in the future I look for them to move again, always in search of cheaper labor. They are loyal to no one, the only thing they care about is the all mighty dollar.

Don't look to the government to take any action to save American jobs. Most of our elected officials, Democrat and Republican have been bought and paid for by the companies that have moved their factories off shore. It is up to each and every one of us to take action to save American jobs. STOP BUYING FOREIGN MADE PRODUCTS. You might have to pay a little more for products made in the United States but just look at it as an investment in the future of our country.

Proclamation

In a previous message I mentioned the fact that I have a 13 year old Grand Daughter that is every interested in POW/MIA issues. I'm sure she will be happy to see the e-mail I got from Chuck and Mary Schantag at, www.pownetwork.org this morning. We should show respect to people that have served their country through service in the military every day, but for some reason that just doesn't happen. There has been a day set aside for former prisoners of war. Please read the following message.

White House Press Releases
National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day, 2005

A proclamation by the President of the United States of America

From the time of our Nation's founding, members of our military have built a tradition of honorable and faithful service. As they fought to protect our security and defend our ideals, some have endured the extreme hardship of enemy captivity. On National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day, we remember those courageous individuals taken prisoner while defending our country, and we honor their extraordinary sacrifices. America's former prisoners of war are among our Nations bravest heroes. Under the worst conditions, they fought fiercely and served with honor, and they continue to inspire generations with their strength and perseverance. In serving our Nation, each demonstrated personal courage, love of country, and devotion to duty. Because of their sacrifices, and the selflessness and heroism of all who have served in our ARMED FORCES, millions of people now live in freedom, and America remains the greatest force for good on Earth. On this day, we honor their role in protecting our country and the liberty of mankind. Today, our brave men and women in uniform carry on their legacy- unrelenting in battle, unwavering in loyalty, and unmatched in decency. As we pursue victory in the war on terror, I join all Americans in expressing our deepest gratitude to every service member who has been a prisoner of war and to their families. NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, PRESIDENT of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim April 9, 2005, as National Former Prisoner of War Day. I call upon the people of the United States to join me in remembering former American prisoners of war by honoring their sacrifices. I also call upon Federal, State and local government officials and private organizations to observe this day with appropriate ceremonies and activities. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this first day of April, in the year of our Lord two thousand five, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and twenty ninth.

National Debt

Once a week I check and record the National Debt, just for my own information. Keeping track of the National Debt comes some where between interesting and depressing. I get the information at, http://brillig.com/debt_clock/ . Using this site you can get the National Debt, at the time of this writing it was $7,780,629,888,337.03 . It also gives the estimated population of the United States which is 295,802,842. They use this to figure out what each United States citizens share of the National Debt would be. That means that at the time of this writing your share of the National Debt was $26,303.43 .

Your Support Is Needed

I'm sure you know legislation has been introduced that will protect firearms manufacturers from predatory lawsuits that could bankrupt the firearms industry in the United States. I want to ask you to contact your United States Senators and urge them to support S. 397, ask your United States Representatives to support the House version H.R. 800. Also ask them to oppose any efforts the anti-gun legislators attempt to add amendments to these two bills that would violate the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution.

You can learn more about this legislation at, www.nra.org or www.gunowners.org

Slap On The Wrist

I just read an article that says former national security adviser Sandy Berger plead guilty to sneaking classified documents out of the National Archives and destroying them. The misdemeanor charge could have got Berger a $100,000 fine and a year in prison. If a plea agreement is approved by Magistrate Deborah Robinson Berger will get off with no jail time and a $10,000 fine. Under terms of the agreement Berger would also have to give up his security clearance for three years.

Sounds to me like members of the Clinton gang can get off with a slap on the wrist when other people would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
