Question Of The Week, 6/29/08

Good morning. This has been an interesting week and it had a little surprise to go with it. "Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said she was “profoundly disappointed” that Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito voted to overturn Washington, D.C.’s handgun ban." (Continue Reading) I wasn't surprised by Feinsteins being “profoundly disappointed”, I was surprised by the ruling. This weeks Question Of The Week will be a two part question. Do you support or oppose the Supreme Court ruling that overturned the D.C. handgun ban? Do you feel there will be a big push get more gun control bills passed in the next four years?

I'll post my answer in the Comment Section Tuesday morning.

Freedom Revolution Festival in Sturgis, South Dakota

We got an e-mail reminder from the Granny Warriors today that tells about an event I'd like to go to, but I'll be at work. Talk about a speakers list, this will be a great place to get the information you need to get your country back. An entertainment list that includes one of my favorite bands, Poker Face. If I was going to be free from July 2- July 6 I'd be going back home to South Dakota and camping out at Freedom Revolution Festival in Sturgis, South Dakota.

Please Allow Me (Obama) To Reintroduce Myself

For some reason when I read the June 23, 2008 Washington Post article "Obama Moves To Reintroduce Himself to Voters" By Dan Balz and Anne E. Kornblut an old Rolling Stones song kept playing in my head. The only thing I use my television for is watching DVD's or VHS tapes, it's not hooked up to cable or an antenna. So chances are I won't see any of Obamas new adds. Cliff Kincaid of Accuracy In Media (AIM) has been trying to help introduce Obama to the public too. He first got my attention when he was on the Gordon Liddy Show. Like Cliff I wonder how much of an influence did Frank Marshall Davis have on Obama? (Continue Reading) I can't say that Obama has even mentioned Frank during his presidential campaign. If he has does that mean things Frank told him have an effect on him today? If he hasn't mentioned Frank is it because that is a part of his past he'd rather us not know about? I don't think Obama wants us to know just how big a part Frank played in making Obama who he is today. I think the main stream media will do all it can to help Obama keep the importance Franks teachings a secret. Cover ups are the price the media pays for favors at a later date.

Question Of The Week, 6/22/08

Good morning. In the past month I've read several articles about a new school lunch payment system where students scan their fingers instead of cards. It sounds like this is catching on or causing a controversy nation wide. It all depends on who wrote the article I guess. Yesterday there was one in my local paper that tells about the controversy in Clinton County, Missouri. (Continue Reading) This weeks Question Of The Week is. Do you support or oppose the use of a system that transforms a student’s electronic fingerprint into a numeric code for this or any other reason?

I'm going to change things here just a little. I'll post my answer in the Comment Section Tuesday morning.

Now Hiring

I don't know, maybe it is just a Buchanan County, Missouri thing. It seems to me like every campaign season we hear about accusations of corruption and dirty tricks/stolen or damaged campaign signs when County Sheriff is one of the positions to be filled. It seems that we always have someone in the department that wants his/her bosses job. Then we hear about issues I feel should have been dealt with and resolved before the campaign began. Police pursuits have become a big issue in this area because one ended with an officers death and a suspect died in another.Brian Carter is challenging his boss in the up-coming election. "Brian Carter, a road patrol supervisor, pursued a man suspected of domestic violence in the county on March 19. During the course of a winding pursuit, both Mr. Carter’s police cruiser and a civilian vehicle were damaged." (Continue Reading) To be honest I don't remember hearing much about the pursuit Mr. Carter was involved in. If he violated department policy he should have been punished. The Sheriff should have made sure the proper action was taken. I don't know that Mr. Carter should get the job but I am sure Buchanan County is in need of a new Sheriff.

Question Of The Week, 6/15/08

Good morning and if you happen to be a Father, Happy Fathers Day. This weeks question will require you to use your imagination just a little. It won't be long now,we will start hearing about the 2008 Presidential Debates. Just suppose one of them was going to be held in Your City/Town, your name was selected at random. Your going to ask the candidates two questions. This weeks Question Of The Week is what two questions would you ask?

A BONUS QUESTION. This will be a tough one. Other than being Fathers and former United States Presidents. What do Gerald R. Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and
William J. Clinton have in common?

I'll post my answer in the Comment Section Monday night

Wait, Don't Touch Those Tax Breaks

I was just reading about the Democrats trying to take away the BIG OIL companies tax breaks and to be honest I have some mixed feelings about this.

"Oil giants keep billions in tax breaks

With oil companies receiving more than $4 for each gallon of gas they sell, Senate Democrats today tried to eliminate the $17 billion in tax breaks Congress has awarded them in recent years.

It also imposed a windfall profits tax.

But Republicans wanted nothing to do with either. In a largely party line vote, they blocked the Democrats’ attempt to bring the tax issue to a vote, so it died on the Senate floor.

For the record, Republicans Kit Bond of Missouri and Sam Brownback and Pat Roberts of Kansas all basically voted to continue the oil company tax breaks. Missouri Democrat Claire McCaskill voted to kill them, the tax breaks that is.

"…if the choice is to do nothing, then I hope the people of this country rise up and scream like they've never screamed before," she said on the Senate floor. "How…dare us do nothing? That is what they're ready to vote on, saying, ‘We're not going to let you proceed to do something about this problem.’ It take a lot of nerve, Mr. President, it takes a lot of nerve."

"I’m from the Show-Me State," Bond said in a statement after the vote, "and you can’t show me a time when raising taxes on something lowered its price or increased its supply. With $4 a gallon gas, we need real solutions that open up supplies of energy here at home and give American families the relief they need."

Roberts spokeswoman Sarah Little said he opposed a vote on abolishing the tax breaks because if it passed, he believes it would amount to a tax increase on the oil companies and result in even higher gas prices.

Brownback aide Brian Hart said the Kansas Republican also opposed the tax increases in the bill. Hart said Brownback didn't think the measure did anything to increase energy supplies."

Don't take me wrong, it's not that I feel sorry for big oil companies and think they need these tax breaks or they'll go under. They didn't get BIG by playing nice, or fair. They got big by being cold hearted, ruthless and cruel. That's just the way the game is played. Do some of our elected officials really think the oil companies will just sit back and take it if they eliminate the tax breaks Congress has awarded them. If they lose the tax breaks someone is going to have to pay. My guess is that someone would be you and I. We thought $4.00 per gallon was to much. What do you think it would be if we were making up for the lost tax break? More than I can afford.

LOGOS Bible Software/Bible Bloggers

I got an E-mail from a Bible Software company the other day. Some folks might consider it unsolicited/junk mail/spam. I found it to be interesting. It told about a Blog Directory. We've all seen them and chances are your listed in at least one somewhere. This one is special/different from others I've seen. Every site listed (There are many)is posting messages about the greatest book ever written (The Bible) or making it in this world while living a Christian life style. I feel that anyone that takes the time to check out this list of sites will find something interesting or helpful. If I'm right and the Bible is our owner operators manual for our time on earth this directory would be a troubleshooters guide. I hope you will put it to good use.

Question Of The Week, 6/8/08

Good morning. I guess I should say good afternoon since I figured out what this weeks question would be Friday at 4:05 PM. You'll have to take a little trip back in time to find the answer to this weeks Question Of The Week. What was Former Secretary of State Dean Rusk talking about when he said, "I was never satisfied with the Israeli explanation. … Through diplomatic channels we refused to accept their explanations. I didn't believe them then, and I don't believe them to this day. The attack was outrageous."?

I'll post my answer in the Comment Section Monday night.

Chicago 1968/Campaign 2008

Over the last few days Florida and Michigan probably been mentioned in the news all across the country more often than the war in Iraq or gas prices. To be honest, I'm enjoying it. A lot of folks are very upset with the Democratic Party, they seem to feel that they are being left out. What will it be, a party united or a party divided? Sounds like a melt down to me. In her May 31, 2008 Newsweek article Suzanne Smalley refers to the disputed seating debate as a "Vote Count Carnival". I worked on and traveled with carnivals for several years. This doesn't sound like fun and games to me. Well maybe it does sound a little like the mark that didn't win the big prize. News on the subject from The Hill did remind me of something from the past. In his May 31, 2008 article,"Party rift on display as Dems settle Florida, Michigan" Sam Youngman could be describing the first few minutes of a riot, “DENVER! DENVER! DENVER!” supporters of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) chanted. Then they walked out of the hotel ballroom and declared that this was no longer their Democratic Party, and that they would never vote for Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) if he wins the nomination." (Continue Reading) It wouldn't be the Democratic Party's first (Riot). I wasn't in Chicago in 1968 but I remember talking with a friend that had went to Chicago on vacation and got caught up in the riot. Back then the big news stories were on the riot and the war in Vietnam. Now it's a war in Iraq and a party divided. I had forgotten about how far a Third Party candidate made it in the 1968 presidential campaign season. (Continue Reading) Maybe the Democratic Party leaders did too. Right now I'm thinking all this Democratic Party infighting could be the chance that third party members and their candidates have been waiting for.
