February 28,1993

I almost forgot. Do you know what happened on this day in 1993? (I hope you'll check out the links) It was day one of the siege on the Branch Davidian Church in Waco, Texas. Please say a prayer for all the innocent men, women and children that lost their lives over the next fifty one days. May they rest in peace.

Question Of The Week, 2/26/06

Good morning. This weeks question will be an easy one. There will be no right or wrong answers. We're going to help each other become more informed by answering this weeks question. I'm sure you read more than one news paper or magazine a day, and you visit several Internet sites to get your news and information. We all have our favorites. This weeks Question Of The Week is, (in your opinion) What news paper, magazine or web site is the best source of news and information? Which ones can you count on to get it right? I'll post my answer in the Comment Section Monday night.

The Terminator Is Back, Or Soon Will Be

In 1999 Monsanto promised not to unleash Terminator Technology. I got an e-mail from a friend this morning that leaves no doubt. Monsanto lied. Small family farmers world wide will be the Terminators first victims. They won't be able to save seeds to grow next years crops, so the cost of farming will go up. That means the price of everything raised or grown on a farm will go up. That will put you on the Terminators list of victims. Did you happen to notice the press release that was sent to me came from a Canadian news wire? Did you see anything about this in your local news? When will we ever learn not to trust big business or the mainstream news media?

If immigration is one of your concerns I'd suggest you check them out and sign up for their action alerts, click on "Join Action Network" under what you can do. Immigration reform is turning out to be one of the major issues in the 2006 congressional campaign/election as it should be. Numbers USA has posted a list of true immigration reform candidates. Check it out to see where the candidates from your area stand on this issue. If they don't support immigration reform I'd suggest you contact them and let them know that until they take this problem seriously they should never expect you to put a mark by their name on a ballot.

Michael New's Recent Day In Court

Yesterday a friend ask me if I had heard anything about the outcome Michael New's February 16, 2006 court date. I hadn't seen anything in the news so I did a little search and found a link to a Washington Times article by Rowan Scarborough that tells about Michaels latest appeal. I also found out that United States Representative Ron Paul introduced The Citizen Soldier Protection Act of 2006 (H.R. 4797) to make sure this never happens again. I hope you will contact your elected officials and urge them to support this legislation.

Happy Birthday President Washington

Chances are most of you have read the story of young George Washington and the apple tree. Have you read about General George Washington's Vision? I hope you will take the time to do that today as we celebrate his birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mr. President.

Lunatics In Charge Of The Asylum

All of the articles I have recently read about the Dubai Ports Deal have proved to me that the lunatics really are in charge of the asylum. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised when I read this one from NewsMax.com. After all it was Jimmy Carter that gave away the Panama Canal and let it fall into the hands of Communist China. I still think brother Billy would have made a better president.

Border Security

We are supposed to be involved in a war on terrorism. There seems to be a problem with the battle plan. We have left the back door (our borders) wide opened. We've all known for years that illegal aliens are coming across the border to find work. Now that the war on terrorism is taking place this is a more serious problem. Terrorist could be crossing with them to carry out the next attack in this country. I hope you'll sign this petition to close the back door.

It's a good night for action alerts. After you sign the petition please read the post below this one.

E-mail Fee/Tax Alert!

I've heard that AOL and Yahoo are planning on charging organizations that send out e-mail alerts. I had thought I'd just change my ISP if they go through with this, but I'm not so sure that would do any good. If they do this how long will it be before every other ISP does the same? Now would be the time to let AOL and Yahoo know you are opposed to their plan. One way to do that would be to sign this petition. I hope you'll take action now.

Question Of The Week, 2/19/06

Good morning. Over the past few weeks we have all seen a countless number of articles telling about Muslims being outraged by cartoons that show Muhammad wearing a bomb shaped turban and as a knife wielding nomad. As a rule I don't pay any attention to the political cartoons, but I did notice one Saturday, February, 18, 2006. When I walked into the break room at work Saturday night our local paper, the St. Joseph News-Press was laying on the table opened to the Opinion Page. A political cartoon at the top of the page shows a likeness of Vice President Cheney. He is wearing a heavy (hunting) coat and large billed (hunting) cap. One lens of his glasses looks like the rings and cross hairs of a rifle scope. He is wearing hearing protection, (muffs) his pants and (hunting) dog are tucked into his boots. He is holding a double barreled shotgun that has the barrels twisted around each other. I can't read the artist signature on the cartoon, C. T. or C. H. Rist, I think. This weeks question of the week is in two parts. Is this cartoon less offensive than the Muhammad cartoons? (Don't forget the subject of this cartoon was a hunting accident and a Gentleman was injured.) Should gun owners, hunters and people involved in other shooting sports be outraged enough by this cartoon to demand an apology?

I'll post my answer in the Comment Section Monday night.

Do You Believe In Free And Open Elections?

When I visited the Constitution Party web site recently I found something that could be good news for the residents of Illinois, North Carolina, New York and Tennessee. Residents of those states might not have to vote for the lesser of two evils in the 2006 election. I say "could be" and "might not" because when you look at this information many times you'll see "Ballot Access In Progress". That means Constitution Party volunteers from each of these states are out trying to get their party and candidates on the ballot by getting the signatures of registered voters on a petition. Singing that petition DOES NOT mean you are agreeing to vote for the Constitution Party candidate (I hope you'll give it some thought). Signing the petition simply means you feel the candidate or party mentioned on the petition should be on the ballot in your state. So, if you are ever approached by a volunteer from the Constitution (or any other so called third party)Party collecting signatures on a petition to gain ballot access please sign it. You'll be telling the powers that be that "We The People" want truly free and open elections. This is one more step in taking your country back.

Senatorial Candidates 2006

I came across a list of candidates who are running for the senate in 2006. I found something that I felt was disturbing in the list. The lack of independent or Third Party candidates. So it looks like we'll get the same-o-same-o one more time in 2006. It's sad to think that we live in a country where it is so difficult to get your name on a ballot if you don't have a D or an R to go along with your name. I feel that D or R along with the name indicates two branches of the same party.

If you feel there is a problem with our so called two party system I hope you will pay a visit to the new blog site on the block, American Bloggers For Inclusive Debates. The site and alliance is dedicated to cleaning up some of the problems we are faced with every time we cast a vote. Signing up to be a part of this will give you a chance to get involved in fixing the system before the next presidential election. Putting third party and independent candidates name's on the ballot will put an end to the old phrase we all hear all to often, "I'm just going to vote for the lesser of the two evils".

Should We Give Up Our Firearms?

I have a feeling that the news of Vice President Cheney being involved in a hunting accident will be used as fuel by the gun grabbers in their efforts to disarm all United States citizens. If the second in command of everything that is the United States can't be trusted to use firearms safely no one can be. BS! Cheney did the same thing many hunters have done in the past. He saw his target,he got excited, and he aimed and fired. He did all of this without thinking about the most important part of hunting or any other shooting sport. What lies beyond your target? Where will that round go if you miss? No matter what any hunter/shooter tells you we all miss from time to time. The hunting accident involving the Vice President shouldn't put an end to hunting/target shooting in the United States. It should tell gun owners to think before you squeeze that trigger. If that moments hesitation causes you to miss, so be it. You and everyone else in your party will get another shot. To enjoy any shooting sport you must put safety first.

I'm running late again. My answer to this weeks Question Of The Week will have to wait until I get off work.

Question Of The Week, 2/12/06

Good morning. I was having some trouble coming up with a question this morning. I shouldn't have. All you need to do is think about something that is important to you, the question will be there. Look at About Me at the top of the site. "I'm concerned about what will be left of the Republic our Founding Fathers left us by the time my Grand Children become adults." A February 10, 2006 Washington Times Op-Ed piece,America at a crossroads, By Newt Gingrich says, "Today, America, and therefore conservatives too--stand at another crossroads, with another set of historic choices that will determine whether we leave our children and grandchildren a country as safe, prosperous and free as the country our grandparents fought and worked to give us." So this weeks Question Of The Week is. Did the Baby Boomers (my generation) fail future generations? Will our (Baby Boomers) actions, or lack of action leave future generations less free, safe or prosperous than we were (are)? I'll post my answer in the Comment Section Monday night.

A Fair Tax

I feel there is something seriously wrong with our current tax system. I've heard a lot of suggestions for how to fix it. The people at Americans For Fair Taxation have come up with the best ideas I've heard so far, a fair tax, what a thought. I got an e-mail from them today I'd like to share with you.

"Dear Fair Tax supporters,

Congress is back in D.C. to begin a new session! The time is right to contact your congressman again! Numerous congressmen met with Fair Tax volunteers in town hall meetings, in their offices, and at other events, and discussed the Fair Tax. Remind your congressman that the Fair Tax is true reform designed to do away with the current corrupt system.

Last week brought us two new co-sponsors: Congressman John Sullivan from Oklahoma and Congressman Spencer Bachus from Alabama. Additional members will sign on as co-sponsors when they hear from you!" "Tell them the country needs the Fair Tax! Congress must know that the Fair Tax accomplishes serious tax reform that is revenue neutral, untaxes the poor, boosts the economy, and eliminates all lobbyist-funded special loopholes and special-interest tax breaks. Be polite and let them know why you support the Fair Tax."

Before you contact your congressman you might want to check out the Americans For Fair Taxation scorecard to see where your elected officials stand on the issue. I'd also like to hear what you think. Do you like the idea of a Fair Tax? Do you feel the current system is ok? Do you feel there is a better plan for fixing the problem? Americans For Fair Taxation would also like to hear about the information you get from your congressman, contact them at info@fairtax.org.

Will I Ever Let Go?

If it seems like I'm unable to let go of the anger/hurt I feel every time I read about the Military Funeral protest held by Westboro Baptist Church members it's because I am. They claim to be protesting homosexual life styles. If that is true let them hold a protest at a gay parade. Maybe they are afraid of being arrested or injured if they did that. I've taken part in protest in the past. If you truly believe in the stand your taking the thought of possible arrest or injury should not bother you. Westboro Baptist Church members have held two protest here in Saint Joseph, Missouri. One was at a Military Funeral, they came back to protest again after our city council passed a city ordinance banning funeral protest. There are some questions about the ordinance. Is it constitutional? Chances are if it was taken to court we would find it's not, but something has to be done to protect people that are attending the funeral of a friend, family member or loved one. It doesn't matter to me if the deceased was a mass murderer, rapist, homosexual, child molester or member of the military. People attending their funeral should be treated with respect.

From time to time I read a Lincoln, Nebraska news paper, the Lincoln Journal Star. They recently published an article about a Lincoln resident, 1st Lt. Garrison Avery being killed while serving in Iraq. When I read that I figured I would soon be reading an article about Military Funeral protest and Westboro Baptist Church members in the Journal Star. It was published today, the article says legislators in several states are now working on legislation that would ban funeral protest. Another article in today's Journal Star says 1st Lt. Avery a West Point Graduate will be buried in the West Point Cemetery in West Point, New York. Westboro Baptist Church members may not want to go there. The article also mentions a memorial service that will be held in Lincoln later this month. I submitted a Letter To The Editor of the Journal Star this morning. I wanted to warn the residents of Lincoln about the possibility of them getting a visit from Westboro Baptist Church members, I hope I'm wrong about that happening. If they do protest the memorial service I hope some Lincoln residents will hold a counter protest and peacefully let them know they are not wanted in the Lincoln area.

Will I ever let go? Not until the Members of the Westboro Baptist Church stop terrorizing innocent victims that are attending the funeral of a loved one.

Question Of The Week, 2/5/06

Good morning. I don't watch television so I didn't see the Presidents State Of The Union Address, but I did read it. I had a little problem with it. That will be the subject of this weeks question. In the address President Bush said, "Keeping America competitive requires an immigration system that upholds our laws, reflects our values, and serves the interests of our economy. Our nation needs orderly and secure borders. (Applause.) To meet this goal, we must have stronger immigration enforcement and border protection. (Applause.) And we must have a rational, humane guest worker program that rejects amnesty, allows temporary jobs for people who seek them legally, and reduces smuggling and crime at the border. (Applause.)" I just couldn't help but leave the (Applause.) in. This weeks Question Of The Week is in two parts. Has the President started to take the wide open border problem more seriously? Why do we need guest workers at all? I'll post my answers in the Comment Section Monday night.

Correction To January 31, 2006 Post, A Wonderful Call From A Stranger

After thinking it over for a few days I've decided I made a terrible mistake when I titled my January 31, 2006 post "A Wonderful Call From A Stranger", it should have been A Call From A Wonderful Stranger. The reason I want to change this is simple. It wasn't just the call that was wonderful. The call was made by a wonderful person. I try, and I'm sure a lot of others try to show our World War Two Veterans the respect they deserve, still we are not doing enough. Each of them are wonderful in their own special way. We are losing them at an alarming rate. I do hope you will go back and read that and give thanks for each of them. Without them we would not have any of the freedoms we have today.

Funeral Protest Ban In The News Again

Over the past couple of months I've posted several messages about protest being held at Military Funerals. You should be able to find links to all of them here. Saint Joseph, Missouris City Council passed an ordinance banning them in this area. Missouri legislators are working on a measure that would stop them state wide. I hate the idea of a law being passed that even might violate the Constitution but something must be done to protect the friends, families and loved ones of the men and women that lose their lives while serving their country. There was an article BY Scott Lauck about the Missouri legislation in the St. Joseph News-Press again today.

"Funeral protest bill tweaked
Change appeases most concerns

Scott Lauck
Reporter

Jefferson City, Mo.- A new version of the funeral protest bill sponsored by St. Joseph's legislators would clear up some of its vague and potentially unconstitutional wording-sort of.

The bill as currently written bans protests "at or about" a funeral site within a certain time period. That phrase has been decried by the Westboro Baptist Church, the group that sparked the bill by chanting anti-homosexual rhetoric at military funerals, including one in St. Joseph last August.

But Westboro wasn't the only group that said a specific distance restriction from the funeral site was in order. House Democrats raised similar concerns at a hearing a few weeks ago, with Rep. Martin Rucker, D-St. Joseph, and the Missouri Association of Funeral Directors agreed. The American Civil Liberties Union also was prepared to weigh in with its opposition.

Under a substitute bill introduced by state Sen. Charlie Shields, R- St. Joseph, "at or about" would remain. However, a couple of twists have been added.

If that phrase is judged to be unconstitutionally vague, a distance of 1,000 feet would go into effect. And if that distance is also found to be unconstitutional, the distance would change to 300 feet.

The changes seem to be settling some concerns- the ACLU came out in support of the bill after the changes were announced.

"We were mostly concerned with the complete prohibition put on with the time limitation," said Brett Shirk, director of the ACLU's Kansas and western Missouri chapter.

Mr. Shields was never a fan- and still isn't- of putting in a distance restriction. After all, the Westboro protest that started this whole thing may well have been further than 300 feet from the funeral site, depending on how the bill is interpreted.

Of course, getting to that distance would require not one, but two successful court challenges.

"It's kind of a unique approach," Mr. Shields said.

The House's Crime Prevention and Public Safety Committee hasn't yet officially adopted the new version of the bill. Its title is Senate Bill 578."

From time to time I read the on-line version of a Lincoln, Nebraska news paper, the Lincoln Journal Star. Today I read an article there that told about a Lincoln man, 1st Lt. Garrison Avery losing his life while serving in Iraq. My heart goes out to all of those he left behind. Topeka, Kansas, home to the Westboro Baptist Church, is not really that far from Lincoln. I hope and pray that I don't go on line some time in the near future and find out that the Avery family has become victims of the Westboro Baptist Church protestors. Maybe, just maybe the Missouri legislation will send them a message. America is tired of your new form of terrorism.

God Bless America, God Save The Republic.

In Memory Of GYSGT Galen F. Humphrey

There is a stainless steel bracelet on my right wrist. It reads "GYSGT Galen F. Humphrey USMC 02-01-66 NVN/OW" There it will stay until someone can show me some more definite proof about what happened to GYSGT Humphrey on February 1, 1966 than what I have seen so far. If you'll read that link you will see he wasn't supposed to be on the aircraft that day. I think that says a lot about what kind of man Galen is, I won't say was (when speaking about any of our POW/MIA's) without positive proof. I've had the honor of meeting his wife and children, all wonderful people. I've been around Susan more than the others I've watched and supported her as she has climbed the political ladder. I think her Father would have been proud. When I decided I would wear a bracelet I ask for one with the name of a local soldier. I was told that GYSGT Galen F. Humphrey was the only Saint Joseph, Missouri soldier that was unaccounted for when we left Vietnam. I look forward to the day I can welcome him home. I pray we'll be able to shake hands when that day comes. In closing I'd like to ask all of you to join me in a moment of silent prayer for GYSGT Humphry and all the other POW'MIA's we have left behind after all wars. We should also ask that their friends, families and loved ones get the answers they have been waiting for so long.
