Question Of The Week, 10/30/05

I'm a little late with this weeks question. We had company when I got off work at 11:PM yesterday and our Grand Daughter was on the computer when I got up this morning. This week I want to use the Question Of The Week to find out what is going on in your area. So this weeks question is. What is the top news story of your local news paper? I'll post my answer in the comment section Monday night.

DOC

Did the title make you think I was posting something about a government agency? That's not what it is at all. It's the title of a book I read recently, DOC (Heroic Stories Of Medics, Corpsmen, and Surgeons In Combat)BY Mark R. Littleton and Charles "Chuck" Wright, published by Zenith Press. I got it while I was at Skidmore, Missouris' Freedom Fest (an event to honor the Veterans of all wars) this September. The book is made up of (true) short stories about the actions of Medics, Corpsmen and Surgeons starting at World War One up through Operation Iraqi Freedom. I've read non-fiction books about combat Infantrymen, Pilots and Sailors in the past, but this is the first one I've ever read about the Combat Medical Personnel. After reading it you can't help but admire them for all their efforts to save lives. Many of them lost their lives while trying to get their wounded comrades to safety. Some of the stories come from the memories of people whose lives were saved by Medics, others are told by the Medics themselves. I'm sure all of them are serious when they say,"The Combat Medic Prayer, Oh, Lord I ask for the divine strength to meet the demands of my profession. Help me to be the finest medic, both technically and tactically. If I am called to the battlefield, give me the courage to conserve our fighting forces by providing medical care to all who are in need. If I am called to a mission of peace, give me strength to lead by caring for those who need my assistance. Finally, Lord, help me to take care of my own spiritual, physical and emotional needs. Teach me to trust in your presence and never-failing love. AMEN." After reading the book I think you will agree with me when I say that some of the most courageous members of our military are our Combat Medical Personnel. It is a book I'd suggest to anyone, if you have a friend that has served as a Medic, Corpsmen or (military) Surgeon it would make a wonderful gift. There are plans to build a Memorial to honor Combat Medical Personnel and a Military Museum in Kansas City. Proceeds from the book DOC will help fund the National Medical War Memorial and Youth Education Center. So by getting a copy you will be helping out with the building of a long over due Memorial.

Miers Name Withdrawn

One of the first things I saw in the news this morning told about Harriet Miers withdrawing her name. I'm sure that some were happy to get this news and it was upsetting to others. My first thought was if not Harriet Miers who will it be? I found a list of possible Supreme Court Nominees at Newsday.com. One name on that page jumped right out at me, Alberto Gonzales. That name should frighten you no matter what side of the political spectrum your on. He has made comments that make me feel he sees nothing wrong with using torture while interrogating a suspect. When the Assault Weapons Ban was about to expire he made it very clear that he put his brothers (a law enforcement officer) safety above the rights of United States citizens. If Gonzales does get the nomination I hope that will be what it takes to unite the left and the right. A seat on the Supreme Court is for life, but your elected officials count on your vote every time their term ends. If Gonzales is nominated please let your United States Senators know that if they vote to confirm him they will get the boot.

McCain Touts Border Reform

I just read an article in the St. Joseph News-Press about a bill by Senators McCain and Kennedy. The Senators claim their bill will help solve our illegal alien problem. I wrote a letter to the editor saying that this bill is no more than a band-aid. This bill could almost be called a reward for breaking United States laws. In my letter I urged people to contact their Senators and ask them to oppose this bill, it doesn't do anything to fix the problem. I ask the News-Press readers to urge their Senators to work with United States Representative Sam Graves on fixing the wide open border/illegal alien problem. Rep. Graves has suggested putting a moratorium on immigration until we have a good workable policy in place. In my last post I posted a link to a site that will give you ideas for things you can do to help. More people need to get involved in getting our elected officials to take action.

What Can You Do?

A lot of people that have stopped by here have said they feel wide open borders and illegal immigration are serious problems. If you ask them to get involved they tell you they can't do any thing because they are just one person. Frosty Wooldridge has sent out an action alert letter telling you what you can do, you start by forwarding the letter to others and asking them to get involved. Then use the links in the text of the letter to help solve one of your country's biggest problems. I hope you will use the link provided here to get involved.

I Haven't Got This Weeks Question Answered Yet

I haven't had time to answer this weeks question yet (I'll get it shortly), because I had to take my wife (Sue)to the hospital as soon as I got off work last night. We found out she has Chrones Disease a few years ago. It has flared up again. I hope you will remember her in your prayers.

Question Of The Week, 10/23/05

Good morning. This has been one busy week, car trouble, and it's not over yet. I was able to figure out where this weeks question would come from before I left for work Saturday afternoon. The subject of President Bush's October 22, 2005 Radio Address To The Nation was the wide open border/illegal alien problem. President Bush says the Homeland Security bill he signed recently is going to help solve the problem. It sounds good, up until now I didn't think Bush felt there was a problem. This weeks Question Of The Week is. Has President Bush finally started taking wide open border/illegal alien problem seriously? Does the Homeland Security bill he just signed do enough, if not what else needs to be done? I'll post my answer in the comment section Monday night.

On Eminent Domain

A Ken Newton column in the St. Joseph News-Press says, "U.S. Sen. Christopher Bond, R-MO., believes the climate of eminent domain law needs some moderation. Mr. Bond acted Wednesday to supply it. The Senate passed a Bond-sponsored amendment restricting the use of federal dollars on private developments using eminent domain powers.Mr. Bond cited an instance in St. Louis where eminent domain laws forced homeowners off their property to accommodate a shopping center. A Supreme Court ruling in June gave local governments more power to seize private property for generating added tax revenue. "People should not be forced out of their homes at the will of any private development," said Mr. Bond in adding the amendment to the Treasury, Transportation and HUD appropriations bill. The amendment allows federal-funds use for eminent-domain projects-highways, airports and so on-that serve the general public".

That all sounds pretty good unless you live in the Saint Joseph, Missouri area. A new strip mall just opened here on the site that once was Green Acres retirement home. You could have called it a poor house. Where was Mr. Bond when it's residents were given the boot?

Pennsylvania Law Makers

Pennsylvania law makers should have to explain this one before they are re-elected if you ask me. I have to agree with Larry Pratt of Gun Owners Of America, this makes no sense what so ever. Anyone that provides a minor with alcohol should be punished, but for some strange reason this new law makes no sense to me. Once again Larry is right as far as I'm concerned, "Punishment Should Fit The Crime".

I Enjoy Filling Out Surveys

I found something interesting when I went to Jeffrey Bennetts site the Federal Observer today. It took me back in time a few years. When the last national census (Please read the posting below this one, Edward Meeks IV won't be counted in the next census) was taken we were some of the lucky ones that got the long version. It had a lot of questions that had nothing to do with the purpose of the census which is described in Article One of the United States Constitution. They wanted to know if we had a toilet that would flush, did we have jobs outside the home, if we did what time did we leave home and when did we return, I'm sure you get the drift. We had a lot of fun filling it out. We gave answers like does not apply and added comments like it sounds like someone is planning to rob us. Some of our friends were afraid we would be fined or arrested. We weren't worried, we knew we hadn't broken any laws and nothing ever came of it. According to this column by Congressman Ron Paul all of that could change unless something is done to stop our run away federal government soon. How would you feel about filling out a 24 page survey of intrusive questions? If passed this will not be voluntary, you could be fined up to $1,000 per question if you refuse to answer. I still don't think it is the federal governments business to find out if we have a working toilet or not, but I don't think I can afford to take this survey. Thank God for elected officials like Ron Paul, I pray he can get this stopped.

In Memory Of Edward Meeks IV

This past Thursday our 14 year old Grand Daughter lost a good friend to a hit and run driver. It's hard enough trying to think of something to say to an adult when they lose someone close to them, what can you say to a 14 year old? I never met Edward myself. A St. Joseph News-Press article tells more about him than I had ever heard of him before the accident. Since it was published a couple of adults that had met him have told my wife and I that Edward was a great kid. One that would have went far if he'd have got the chance. Rest In Peace Edward, you will never be forgotten.

Question Of The Week, 10/16/05

Good morning. I got the idea for this weeks question after reading President Bush's October 15, 2005 radio address to the nation. In the address Bush talks about Al Qaeda's number two man,Zarqawi comparing Iraq to Vietnam. Zarqawi says the United States ran out on it's agents in Vietnam and can be made to run again. Bush says, "They are gravely mistaken". So, this week's Question Of The Week is. After all is said and done, after all the foreign troops have left Iraq, will it be a free country or will it once again be a dictatorship? I will post my answer in the comment section Monday night.

Got An E-mail

I got an E-mail from the band Poker Face this morning. If you have never been to their site I'd suggest you check them out. You'll get a chance to hear some excellent music by four men that love their country and support it's constitution. They are concerned about the direction the country is headed and their music shows it. They wanted to let everyone on their E-mail list know that they will be in Kentucky for the Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot this week end. That would be a great place to be, good music and a full auto show. The E-mail also mentions our dependence on foreign oil and contains a link to Grassolean, a possible solution to make us more independent. I do hope you will check that out.

Welcome Home

Some of you might know that several members of my family are interested in POW/MIA issues. I just read an article about seven United States soldiers that went missing in 1968 being laid to rest. I wish there could have been a miracle and they'd have made it home alive, I'll continue to pray for the (many) others that are still missing. When speaking about his brother (one of the returned MIA's) Dean Czerwonka said, "It will put some finalization to it". I think that's what everyone involved in the POW/MIA issue really wants more than anything. To me finalization will come when we are told the truth about every one of the soldiers this country has ever left behind. I'd like to say Welcome Home to the seven mentioned in this article. May they rest in peace.

Question Of The Week, 10/9/05

Good Morning. I figured out what this week's question would be as soon as I saw this article in the Saint Joseph News-Press. The Confederate Battle Flag has been the subject of many debates (arguments) over the years. It doesn't mean the same thing to everyone that sees it. This weeks Question Of The Week is (2 parts), What does the Confederate Battle Flag represent? Should it be allowed to fly on government property such as state parks and historic sites? I'll post my answer in the comment section Monday night.

Letter From An American Soldier

I got an E-mail from Brent Bozell, founder & president of the Media Research Center asking me to forward this Letter From An American Soldier to everyone on my E-mail list. I was also ask to send along a little note urging them to sign a petition which demands the media tell the truth. After I did that I wanted to take it a little farther and ask you to read the letter and sign the petition. I know the anti-war groups have a right to speak out, but from what I have read about some of the things a few of them have done I'd rate them right up there with Jane Fonda and the anti-war protesters that spit on returning Vietnam Veterans and called them "baby killers". Actions like these will never get my support.

Crime: The Open Borders Lobby's Dirty Little Secret

Every once in a while when I read or hear something on the subject of illegal immigration someone will say after all this is a country made up of illegal immigrants. They tell us we should let them (illegal aliens) stay in the country, after all they are just trying to make a better life for themselves and their families. Over and over, I've heard the claim made that they are not a real threat to our jobs. After all they are doing the work that United States born citizens don't want to or won't do anyway. I'm not so sure about that. Right now we have a lot of United States born citizens that have been displaced by the hurricane season. If you were to talk to some of these people right now you might find that they would be more than happy to take one of these jobs that no one wants to do. Illegal aliens taking our jobs is not the real reason for this posting. Maybe some of these illegal aliens came here looking for a better life but I'm not so sure all of them planned on working for this better life. If you feel illegal aliens are not a serious problem I hope you will take the time to read this Front Page Magazine article. If you have friends or family members that feel this is not a problem please share the article with them.

I Was Mistaken

I was mistaken. How often can you say that and be happy about it? I was really concerned about who the next Supreme Court nominee would be. I was afraid that President Bush would nominate Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales who had this to say about Harriet Miers. I haven't heard a lot about Harriet Miers so I feel there are a lot of questions to be answered. If she does become a Supreme Court Justice I hope and pray she is someone that will interpret the Constitution as it was written and not someone that will try to change it to fit the mood of the day.

Question Of The Week, 10/02/05

Good Morning. A couple of times this past week I listened to a tape of an old Perspectives On America, Jeffrey Bennett's short wave program. I think it was originally done in late 1999 or early 2000. Jeff's subject that day was heroes. He ask who are America's heroes today? I'm going to do the same thing this morning. This weeks Question Of The Week is, (several parts again) Does America have any real heroes today? If there are any who are they? What is it that makes them a true Hero? I'll post my answer in the Comment Section Monday Night.

By the way, Jeff no longer broadcast on short wave but he has a very interesting web site, The Federal Observer, I hope you will check it out.

Oddball In Society

Maybe I'm an oddball in today's society. I have this strange idea that you should work for what you get. If you follow the news wires you will see a lot of people don't think that way. They figure somewhere along the way someone has wronged them and they should be able to take them to court and receive a settlement that will leave them set for life. If your one of the people that thinks this way there are lots of big organizations out there just waiting to provide you with the legal assistance you need, and share your winnings. The American Civil Liberties Union and the Brady Campaign just to name a couple. I read an article today that caused(the evil side of me) me to start thinking someone could turn the table on the Brady Campaign for this one. The article starts out by saying,"A deplorable advertising effort mounted by the Brady Campaign to Control Gun Violence that warns tourist they might be killed by legally-armed Florida residents is tantamount to terrorism, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) said today." If I'm not mistaken a lot of the money that comes into Florida annually is brought in by tourist.A lot of small bussinesses count on tourism to stay alive. The Brady Campaign could have just signed their death warrent by telling tourist to stay away from Florida. I'm thinking if you were a small business owner in Florida that counted on tourist trade the Brady Campaign should be held resposable for any losses you suffer due to this add campaign. To me this makes just as much sense as suing a gun maker because a gun they made ten years ago was stolen from a legal gun owner and then used to commit a crime.
