FYI, 420

Until I read this I always thought 420 was just the number that came between 419 and 421. Now I see that the number is something to be concerned about. Especially if you have young people living in the house. Please share the Paul Bishop article with any of your friends that are raising teens.

United States Representative Sam Graves On Border Security/And A Broken Immigration Policy

I subscribe to my United States Representative, Sam Graves (R-MO) news letter, STRAIGHT TALK WITH SAM. I'd like to share the most recent issue with you.

"Volume 6, Issue 13, March 27, 2006

STRAIGHT TALK WITH SAM

Security Begins at the Border

It's easy to figure out where robbers might enter your home when you're not there. That's why some houses not only have locks, but deadbolts on the door. If it's a high-crime neighborhood you might even see bars on the windows. Unfortunately, our American home has no walls and its borders stretch over 6,000 miles of land and 2,000 miles of coastline. There is not a deadbolt big enough for that kind of space.

The security of the United States begins at the border. We cannot control what terrorists do once they get into the country, and we cannot control when and where a terrorist chooses to strike us. However, we can control whether or not terrorists get into this country. We have taken steps in recent months to boost security along both of our borders. It is not enough and we still have more to do.

I have proposed suspending non-resident visas. It only makes sense to shut off a leaky faucet in order to fix it. We must conduct a background check or have a face-to-face interview with every person who is allowed into our country. I believe that every time someone is let in without a proper security check we are playing with our safety.

There is no doubt this country is great because of immigration, not in spite of it. However, failure to control both legal and illegal immigration means that America is rolling the dice when it comes to our security. We need a common sense, manageable immigration plan and we need it now.

Sincerely,

Sam Graves
Member of Congress"

I'll be watching to see if Sam can come up with that plan. In the past he has gone as far as to suggest a complete moratorium on all immigration until our broken policy is fixed. I think we can all agree something needs to be done soon.

Question Of The Week, 3/26/06

Good morning. I got the idea for this weeks question from a Mark Silva/Chicago Tribune article I found at the Lincoln Journal Star. This weeks Question Of The Week is. Would you support or would you be opposed to legislation that would make felons of all illegal aliens caught in the United States (and why)? By the way, the Lincoln Journal Star is asking the same question. You might want to stop by their site to Sound Off. I'll post my answer in the Comment Section Monday night.

RU-486 Alert

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is now reporting that seven women have died after taking the RU-486 abortion pill since the drug was approved in 2000.

I'm thinking now would be the time to contact the FDA and urge them to take this deadly drug off the market, before there are more deaths.

Please contact the FDA and let them know how you feel about this issue. Go to the Select A Topic box and click on Drug (second option) Click Go. Type your message into the comments box and send your message. Or call the FDA to leave your comments at 1-888-463-6332.

Question Of The Week, 3/19/06

Good morning. I got lucky this week. I didn't have to look any farther than today's e-mail to get this weeks question. In Buckley's words, "One can't doubt that the American objective in Iraq has failed." This weeks Question Of The Week is (two parts). Are columns like this one turning the War in Iraq into another Vietnam? Has the American objective in Iraq failed? (have we lost another war?) I'll post my answer in the Comment Section Monday night.

The Enemy Of All Free Men

When Jerry Hughes spoke in Kansas City a few years ago he read one of his poems. I'd like to share it with you because of my answer to the 3/12/06 Question Of The Week.

Apathy-The Enemy Of All Free Men

I am your enemy, your nightmare and your destruction.

I am more powerful than the combined militaries of the world.

I have destroyed more men than all the wars of all nations combined.

I massacre millions of people each and every generation.

I have wrecked more homes than all other causes known to you.

I cause the downfall of the greatest civilizations in history.

I spare no one.

My victims are rich and poor, young and old, strong and weak.

I do not respect color nor creed.

Children shall know me in their eternal sorrow.

I cast my shadow over every thought of man.

I hide in unseen places and I go about my work silently.

You have been warned of my presence, but you do not listen.

I never sleep and I am everywhere you are.

You can not hide.

Illness, revulsion, disease and death follow me and are my friends.

I will give you nothing.

I will take everything you have and then seek more.

I will cause you to turn away from all you once believed in.

I will blind your eyes to the sins of your elected leaders.

I go where my master orders.

The Prince of Darkness alone sends me into your life.

Once allowed inside, seldom am I ask to leave.

America, won't you please allow me to enter and give me rest.

I will remove all your worries and concerns.

I will take away any concern for individual responsibility.

I will bring you bliss.

I am your friend.

I am Apathy.

I thought that was a very good way to explain one of the biggest threats to our freedom and liberty. Jerry does a three hour Internet broadcast every week day starting at 1:PM (cst). If your interested you can hear him at Accent Radio Network. I think you will find it worth your time.

The Good Folks Of Nebraska Need Your Help

Nebraska might soon be joining the majority of the fifty states that issue concealed carry permits. I have reason to believe an old friend lives in Lincoln, Nebraska. I would hate to think that she would ever get into a situation where she would have to use a hand gun to defend herself. If something like that did happen I would feel better knowing that she lived in a state that would allow her to carry a concealed hand gun. The NRA has come out in support of LB454 and is asking other supporters to contact the Lincoln Journal Star and Sound Off about concealed carry. I'm hopping you will do that too. You'll be making it possible for an old friend of my to defend herself if she has to and you'll be making me feel better knowing that she can.

Question Of The Week, 3/12/06

Good morning. Before posting this weeks question I scanned the news wires and my e-mail to see if there was anything interesting there. Then I read the on-line version of my local Sunday paper(you have to be a paid subscriber to do that) and checked out the on-line version of the Lincoln Journal Star to see if Nebraska is any closer to passing a concealed carry bill. Then I figured out this weeks question had been rattling around in my head along with a bunch of other stuff like, how do I get out of taking care of the lawn without paying to have it done this summer, how can I get Poker Face to perform in Missouri and will I ever find my old friend(?), before I got off work last night. So, this weeks Question Of The Week is. What or who (can be a group of people) is the biggest threat to our freedom and liberties (the country our Founding Fathers left us) today? I'll post my answer in the Comment Section Monday night.

Brady Campaigns Annual State Report Card

In a March 8, 2006 press release the Brady Campaign said, "State Legislatures Are Failing To Protect Kids From The Dangers Of Illegal Guns. Thirty two states received a grade of "D" or "F" on the 2005 report card. I checked it out, Missouri, my home state got a D+. Check it out and see how your state scored. I have a feeling that any state that allows concealed carry got a bad grade. Everything I've read about the Brady Campaign leads me to believe they are more concerned about figuring out a way to disarm all law abiding United States citizens than they are about protecting our children.

Stop Planned Parenthood Tax Funding

Dear Friends,

As you've probably seen in the national news over the last few days, South Dakota (one of my old home states) just passed a ban on abortions in the state.

That's Great news, but there's one organization trying to do everything in its power to block that lifesaving measure from going into effect: Planned Parenthood.

Not only that, but Planned Parenthood operates the nation's largest abortion chain, terminating over 255,000 children each year, while taking in your tax dollars- to the tune of $265 million a year!

Enough is enough!

I'm inviting you to join me in signing the nationwide petition to stop Planned Parenthood's tax funding once and for all!
Sign the petition, and protect the lives of innocent children in South Dakota, and all across America.

Please Take The Time To Write A Family In Need

I want to thank Gribbit for posting this and Always On Watch for drawing my attention to it. SGT Rickey Jones of Kokomo, Indiana lost his life while serving his country in Iraq. After his death his family became the victims of what I would call a terrorist attack (see the links in Gribbits message for details) here in the United States. I hope you will take the time to send the Jones family a letter showing your support and love. You will find the address at several of the links in Gribbits message.

I want to thank everyone that has been a part of this letter writing campaign.

Question Of The Week, 3/5/06

Good morning. I read an article by Robert Burns and Lolita Baldor that tells about the Army's plans to investigate the death of Pat Tillman at Newsday.com while I was deciding what this weeks question would be. One short paragraph just jumped out at me and left me with a question. "We are obligated to answer the family's questions, as we are with all grieving families," Curtin said". This weeks Question Of The Week is. When someone is lost while serving in the United States military do their family members ever really get all of their questions answered? I'll post my answer in the Comment Section Monday night.

The Price Of Silver

When I answered my Question Of The Week on January 1, 2006 I said silver would reach $10.50 per ounce by mid year. When I checked today at 1:44 PM silver had gone up to $10.10 per ounce. Now I'm thinking that $10.50 could come before mid year.

A Pro-Life Win

I was born in 1950 and put up for adoption at birth. I think that should give you some idea as to where I stand on the abortion issue. It does my heart good to see headlines like, Mo. Court Upholds 24-Hour Wait, By Associated Press Writer David Lieb at Newsday.com. The law makes sense to me. It requires that physicians wait 24 hours after conferring with women about the physical, psychological and situational risk factors associated with abortions before performing the procedure. If you try to purchase firearms in most states your likely to face a waiting period and no one knows why your trying to buy firearms. It's not hard to figure out why a woman would go to an abortion provider. A 24 hour waiting period just might give an innocent un-born child a chance to live. I'd like to publicly thank the Missouri Supreme Court for giving them that chance.

Looking For Kathi Gardner-Frank

I've been trying to find an old friend, Kathi Gardner-Frank, formerly of Saint Joseph, Missouri (Kathi Gardner when we met in the 60's). I have reason to believe she is now living in Lincoln, Nebraska, that may or may not be correct. Several searches have turned up nothing. So I'm asking for your help, she could be anywhere. If you know someone by this name or any Kathi (last name could have changed again) that lived in Saint Joseph in the 60's ask her to stop by to contact me. Clicking on my name at the top of the page will take you to an e-mail link. Kathi would now be in her early to mid 50's if that's any help.
