Question Of The Week, 9/21/08

Good morning. I couldn't find anything in the news or in my e-mail that gave me an idea for a question this week. So here we go. This weeks Question Of The Week is. Should a member of a labor union be able to request that his or her monthly dues not be used for political campaign contributions?

I'll post my answer in the Comment Section Tuesday morning.

No, but they should be able to vote on such contributions. A Union must work as a single unit, which I think is implicitly understood from the name of the organization: "Union".

If the majority of Union members want to contribute to a political campaign, so be it.

For better or worse, this is how a Union functions.

I have a friend who works for the Postal Union. They are openly supporting Obama and the recent newsletter discussed how important redistribution of wealth is and more. They're total socialists.

My answer would be they shouldn't have to join the union.

If they have to (coersion), they should have a voice, not be kept quiet by the leadership.

First I want to thank you for stopping by to answer this weeks question."Should a member of a labor union be able to request that his or her monthly dues not be used for political campaign contributions?" I'am going to say yes. I don't recall my local ever getting to vote on what candidate the union would support. Word would come down fron the national and that was the end of it.

God Bless America, God Save The Republic.
