Don't Want To Cause Any Undue Hardship

I read an Associated Press article (to tell the truth, I've read more than one article on this) about a student in Georgia that was suspended from school for ten days for refusing to end a phone call he had got from his Mother who is serving as a United States soldier in Iraq. The article said that the student had became defiant when told to end the call. All of the articles I've seen about this point out the fact the the school has rules about students receiving calls during school hours, and I agree students shouldn't be on the phone during class. From what I have read he got the call during lunch. The lunch period was about to end when he was told to end the call. I've also read the students Father died when he was five years old, so he was talking to his only parent who happens to be half way around the world putting her life on the line as a soldier. I pray for her safety, but this could have been the last time he would ever get to talk to her. I would think that the school officials would have given some thought to all of this before suspending the student. The best they could do was say that they could have had him arrested but they don't want to cause the Mother any undue hardship since she was serving in Iraq. What do you suppose all the media attention is doing for this lady? If I were the Mother the first thing I would do when I got home would be get my child out of the government training center (public school system) and start home schooling him.

I still find myself wondering what would have happened if one of the teachers received a call from a husband, wife, son or daughter that was serving over seas. Would they have been expected to hang up?

I hesitate to give the benefit of the doubt to any school administrator who thinks "conversate" is a word.
