Question Of The Week, 7/1/07
Good morning. I'd also like to wish you an early safe and Happy Independence Day. Since Wednesday will be our country's Birth Day feel free to share your favorite Independence Day (picnic) recipe with us. That was not the Question Of The Week. I'm sure there will be some young people at those Independence Day picnics. This weeks Question Of The Week is. How would you explain what we are celebrating (the birth of our country)to them?
I'll post my answer in the Comment Section Monday night.
God Bless America, God Save The Republic.

I'd say that we are celebrating the success of resistance and rebellion against a colonial or occupying power.
The fight for self-determination is one worth fighting, and our history proves it.
I would try to point out that people in other parts of the world have the same desires as us.
I was talking about this with Willy right before he went out for an early celebration with my mother (Friday). He learned about George Washington in school; we talked about how the US used to be a group of English colonies, and how there was a king who made rules that weren't fair, and how George Washington and some of his friends decided they weren't going to follow rules that weren't fair, that they wanted to be free, and they fought the king so they could make America a land of freedom.
When Willy asked what happened to the king (Is he in jail?), I told him that it was a long time ago and the king was dead now. And I told him that George Washington and all his friends are dead, too; because it was so very long ago. He didn't like that part.
Recipes, huh? I guess you're looking for something that won't spoil in the heat? I'm not going to a picnic, but I would think just barbequed chicken, corn on the cob, watermelon and brownies would be good. I also like a fruit salad made of grapefruit and pineapple chunks with fresh mint.
First I want to thank you for stopping by to answer this weeks question, "I'm sure there will be some young people at those Independence Day picnics. This weeks Question Of The Week is. How would you explain what we are celebrating (the birth of our country)to them? The colonists had came to the new land in search of freedom. They found that everything they had tried to excape from had followed them. After many heated debates some of them (a small percentage) decided the time had come to take a stand. A nation was born.
OH! the recipe. David's Independence Day Burgers.
Start out like you were going to make Classic Lipton Burgers:
1 pouch Lipton Onion Recipe Soup
1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef 750 g
Combine Lipton Onion Soup with ground beef. Shape into 6 patties. Keep patties cold until your ready to grill. Fry six eggs (hard), keep them warm. Fry 12 strips of bacon, crisp, keep them warm. Slice cheese and tomatoes for each patty, keep cool. You need cool lettuce leaves ready. Grill burgers to suit taste. Serve on a bun topped with two strips of bacon, one egg, lettuce, sliced cheese and tomatoes. Don't let your doctor know you eat like this.
Have a Safe and Happy Independence Day.
God Bless America, God Save The Republic.
