Question Of The Week, 6/24/07
Good morning. This weeks Question Of The Week came to me right after I got home from work last night. It's one that I have ask before but I can't remember when, and I don't know what made me think of it now. What is the purpose of (reason for having) our Federal Government?

As you might remember...
In addition to what Stephanie said, the federal government has specific functions as outlined in our Constitution. Many of those were listed in reaction to the failure of the Articles of Confederation, which didn't allow for the coining of money and the funding of a standing army. As per the last two amendments listed in the Bill of Rights, all other functions are reserved to the States and the People.
Today the federal government has stuck its nose into many areas in which it has no legal business! In short, the present federal government has become the Nanny State.

First I want to thank you for stopping by to answer this weeks question, "What is the purpose of (reason for having) our Federal Government?" The Preamble to the United States Constitution sums it up really well doesn't it,"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." If you read just that much of our constitution it is real easy to see that our elected officials are not doing their job and they need to be sent packing the next time their names appear on a ballot. When I read, "provide for the common defence", one of the things that comes to mind is secure our borders. That doesn't mean grant amnesty to 12 million illegal aliens. I'm happy to see AOW mentioned, "the coining of money". Some of our former members of congress clearly violated the constitution when they handed that duty over to private bankers/the federal reserve.
