Crime Emergency Declaration!

In the past I have heard people say and read articles that tell us the more guns there are on the streets the more likely we are to be robbed, raped or murdered. As far as I know there is no place in the United States that has gun laws that are more restrictive than the Washington, D.C. area gun laws. If these people are right why is it that the D.C. Chief Of Police has found it necessary to issue a Crime Emergency Declaration? At the same time Gov. Jeb Bush of Florida, possibly the state with the least restrictive gun laws in the country has announced,Florida's crime rate is down to the lowest level since 1971. So, does this mean that the people that live in Florida are a better class of people than the ones that live in the D.C. area? I don't think so. I think Florida's thugs and thieves figured out that there was a real good possibility their next would be victim might be armed and ready to protect themselves so they found a different line of work. Armed citizens are one of the best things we've got going to fight crime.

God Bless America, God Save The Republic.

Little-known fact: If one is not a convicted felon, carrying concealed in D.C. is a misdemeanor.

Some years ago, Kinnesaw, Georgia, was experiencing a wave of burglaries. The town enacted a law which forced all citizens to qualify on the range and to arm themselves. Guess what happened? :)

I can't think of a reason that would make me want to live in D.C. I do remember what happened in Kinnesaw. It's to bad that didn't catch on and spread.

We are in agreement about private ownership of firearms...but a "law" coercing us? That alone would be grounds for a regime change. I don't "need" the government, at any level, to "force" me to qualify on the range (though, because I grow old and frail, I DO need to get some practice in soon) or to arm myself. It's my decision. But thanks to the establishment down in Kinnesaw for having my interests at heart.

I'm sorry, David and Ms.Always. I'm feeling mildly cantankerous today! So you know, I do agree that we should be armed and ready, I just don't care for being told to do it by those whose agendas may be suspect from my personal anti-authoritarian view.

(By the way, David. I'm sure you remember some firearms training we received in R.O.T.C. from good old Sgt. Ellsworth Sam. A good soldier and a decent man...he had to be to put up with some of the idiots we went to school with!)...

Traven, Oh yes, Central and R.O.T.C. Knowing that any one of us could end up spending a little time in Vietnam made me think that was one class that might do us some good. Someone was talking about how much Central has changed over the years a few days ago. They said the inside is nothing like it was when we were there. I might find out soon. I have a Grand Daughter that will start there this year.

Guns will prevent crime and weaken dependence from the liberal system, of course they dont want that

David: As you know I recently visited D.C. Our hotel was in Alexandria so the only time I didn't carry was in D.C. itself. I posses a North Carolina concealed permit, but of course it is not recognized by D.C. So, either it is a very safe city, or I'd be out of my mind to drag my family around such a place after dark.

http://theuphillslope.blogspot.com/2006/04/fear-reason-and-gun-control.html#links This is a post I did back in April which is the best thing I can say about gun control.

God Bless; keep bloggin.

Traven,
The police force in Kinnesaw just oculdn't keep up with the crime wave. I rather imagine that not much coercion was involved in Georgia. LOL.

And Another Thing,
D.C. after dark can be very dangerous, but until quite recently, some neighborhoods were generally okay as far as personal safety goes. That has changed--and July 1 keeps being mentioned as the tip-over date.
